However, the compression chamber transforms a significant portion of this oil into fine aerosols and sub-micron mist. Separating this vaporized phase from the process stream requires highly specialized multilayered media configurations.
Industrial air-oil separators operate on three fundamental physical principles: Direct Impaction, Inertial Interception, and Brownian Diffusion. For droplets larger than 1 micron, inertial interception forces the aerosols to collide with the borosilicate glass fibers. For sub-micron particles (ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 microns), Brownian motion dictates their movement, causing them to collide with fibers where they accumulate and form larger liquid droplets. These coalesced drops subsequently flow downward due to gravitational forces, collecting in the separator sump for recirculation.
